JUL 2008 HOT PICK CD/NEW RELEASES
Celebrate USA's Birthday Month with Good Ol'(and New)American Band Music.

AMERICAN TAPESTRY; KEY: Star-Spangled Banner (arr. J. Williams); Joseph Willcox JENKINS: American Overture; Howard HANSON: Merry Mount Suite; George GERSHWIN: Rhapsody in Blue; Christopher TUCKER: Ceremonial Fanfare; Steven BRYANT: Radiant JOY; Robert Russell BENNETT: Suite of Old American Dances; John Philip SOUSA: The Washington Post March

by Lone Star Wind Orchestra/Eugene Corporon; Shuster, Richard, piano

Naxos continues its Wind Band Classics series with another winner. Led by veteran band conductor Eugene Corporon, the Lone Star Wind Orchestra plays so tightly you couldn't slip a sheet of paper between sections! And they need to be on point, as these original and arranged works are rather sophisticated, beginning with John Williams' fun, flashy arrangement of our National Anthem to new discoveries like Steven Bryant's jazz fusion-infused Radiant Joy, and a chance to let loose in Rhapsody in Blue.
